Ray's Kokoda Trek

Friday 21 April 2017
In April 2017, I will be walking the Kokoda Track. This gruelling trek will have me walking 96kms over 8 days. The total time that it will take me to walk this track is about 51hrs. This has been one of my ambitions for many years. I have also concluded that the trip could mean so much more to a particular family in the community who could benefit from a helping hand.

This family has a daughter, Jade Kollmorgen, who at 18 years of age has been suffering from the debilitating disease Cystic Fibrosis. As a Cystic Fibrosis sufferer, her quality of life is diminished and her life expectancy is also shortened.

Her parents, Rachel and Adam and siblings, make sacrifices everyday to support and help Jade through her struggles. Whilst both parents had always worked full time, Rachel is no longer able to do this due to the stress and struggles of looking after Jade. When Jades illness becomes acute she needs full time care and undivided attention just to get through each day. This is an enormous strain on the family physically, emotionally and least of all financially.

I would love to help make a difference to this family and take away some of their financial woes that inevitably take its toll on the whole family. In order to do this I have decided this trek will be called “Kokoda for Kollies” and my aim is to raise funds for this family in need. I am more than happy to discuss how I will be doing this with a little help from those of us that are more fortunate.

I am committed to raising money to help this family. Over the past 6 months I has been in training, preparing for this gruelling trek. I have lost over 19kgs and am still going strong.

Please join me in supporting Jade for such a worthy cause on my journey.
